10 Tips to run Hong Kong Facebook Page

(中文按此) As a digital creative agency, one of our services is managing Facebook Pages of clients. We also started some Facebook Pages on our own (at least, Creativeworks Facebook Page). We have spent considerable time and money to gain our experiences in managing Facebook Pages, and concluded some tips for Hong Kong marketers who are still fresh in this area and do not know how to start.

1. Name your Page

Your baby Page was born with a number, but sooner or later she will grow up. Give her a name before she became a lady.

2. Plan the posts every month

Postings need not to be frequent, but they have to be regular. But do not cram posts months ahead or you will just be seen as obsolete.

3. Schedule your post time

Hong Kong people make good use of every second rubbish fragment time to social. When do you use Facebook the most? On bus, in lift, on escalator, in toilet, on bed. Will you use Facebook more frequently in weekend? At least I won’t.

4. A picture is worth a thousand words

In particular, there is a saying goes: “we are now much like ancient Egypt: we write on walls and worship cats.”

5. Prepare to pay

Writing contents is costly, hence leaving them unnoticed is not a good idea. You have already spent an hour or more to write a good post, why not spending a sum as low as HKD 10 per day to let 10x or 100x more users to know your Page?

6. Focus on driving page like

A dollar today is worth more than a dollar in the future. So does a Page fan. The earlier you acquire an engaging fan, the more time she can click, like, comment and share your posts. Seek first to acquire fans, then to reach them.

7. You need scenes like Ben-Hur

Two pages that are identical from all aspects except one has 100 fans and another 1000 fans. Which will catch more of your attention? Boost early stage fans number from locations with huge number of Chinese users and low cost of fans acquisition. Concern about the weight of Hong Kong fans in later stage of the game. Taiwan and Malaysia are our choices. But avoid some regions which tends to create more abnormal (a better word to say weird) fans’ activities.

8. Keep close watch on your average acquisition cost

Fans from Hong Kong are noble. Competitions among Pages to fight for this tiny but rich market is far fiercer than marketers from other parts of the world can imagine. Observe your acquisition cost per fan from Hong Kong frequently and regularly. HKD 1 is a definite buy, HKD 3 is still economical, HKD 5 or above may require your actions: adjust the target audience, make a new creative, or change the style of your posts.

9. Take care of mobile users

Facebook stock price rises and falls with its mobile ads income. “To social”, “to digital” are sometimes collectively called “to mobile”. Design the text and images from the perspective of mobile users. How will they response to an ads in that small screen?

10. Leverage on the power of friends of fans

From our experience, there is 200 friends behind each fan. Another good news is, friends of fans generally engage more into the Page than a stranger (a.k.a lower acquisition costs). When you turn friends of fans to become your fans, then you can access to another new pool of 200 friends. Do your math.

Running a Facebook Page sometimes requires gut feelings which in fact can be developed through experiences. Let us help you along with your social adventure.
