Blockchain, machine learning, social network, digital media... you may think I am too ambitious to enter into all these areas. But they are all interrelated. They will merge to one sometime in the future. As we are seeking teammates to join this exciting journey, I think I have to give you a brief what we are doing.BlockchainForbole, which is our flagship of these innovative projects, is positioned as a blockchain startup. The main core project is a referral social network. We are now testing the MVP. Our main difference with most of the other blockchain companies who have done ICO or who are going to launch ICO is that we don't choose Ethereum. We are skeptical about the scalability Read more [...]

Talked about startup environment in HK with some friends last night. We talked about angels, accelerators and government’s role. In the group, only I need to work for living with family burdens. Some of them are born with acres of land (I meant, acres of land in HK). They want to know my view and what I need. I think I should write down my view. When you search “founder” and “entrepreneur” on LinkedIn and pick “Hong Kong” as location, more than half of your findings are expats.Within the remaining half, half of them seems like have lived outside of HK more than in HK.Within the remaining quarter of your findings, half of them studied abroad. This finding unveils Read more [...]
Just like most of the blockchain startups, we thought that Ethereum was our home. But we were wrong. Ethereum maybe convenient for an ICO. But we also need scalability if we truly want to have more feasible blockchain concepts to become reality .When we heard of Cosmos (and the consensus engine Tendermint), it was like Newton's apple. It has solved our puzzle about Ethereum, in the blink of an eye. This has even changed my entire view about ICOs, of which most "startups" are mainly based on Ethereum - and most of them will never deliver a sound product except a sound smart contract based on Ethereum. In fact, this is the very reason why most of them choose Ethereum. ICO, and ICO only.Shifting Read more [...]
As you can see, we have just revamped our blog. This a revamp which is aimed at solving some UX issues our dear users (it means you) have tolerated for years. We used two days to complete the revamp.Programming and design are no difficult tasks to tech-based digital agencies like us. It is the positioning and branding that have consumed more of our brain power. We run this blog to create our influence in the digital marketing industry. We also have an official website as a company, which is quite stylish and a bit fancy which shows our brand as a digital agency. Two websites provide different user experiences. As time goes by, both websites have attracted two completely different target Read more [...]
Online dating is an interesting business model. I have used dating app since the time when MSN was still our major IM (okay, I confess. I would search for random female users on ICQ when I was studying in secondary school. Was that the ancestor of modern online dating?). Now, I mainly use Tinder.I wonder what other dating apps are doing. What are their edges? And why? Luckily I found an Esquire post which cited 12 Alternative Dating Apps To Tinder. But I have not found what I want. Since I have an idea of business networking app back to the year 2013, I wonder if this is possible to merge professional networking and online dating into one single concept. Out of these 12 alternative Read more [...]
In the past, as long as the law allows, you may hunt a bird. You may hunt a deer. You may hunt a lion. While hunting may still be legal in some jurisdictions today, hunting is against the value of mankind. Hunting is cruel. Hunting is inhumane. But why then we are hunting a CEO, a VP, or a mobile app developer? As a startup, I don’t use headhunters. Hunting a future teammate is too cruel. And I don’t want to be hunted by headhunters either.I don’t use headhunters, even we have sufficient funding to do so. This is not just a matter of cost.If time is a non-renewable resource, you should spend it on the most important thing. As a startup founder, what is more important than Read more [...]
"I wish posts were made in both Chinese and English so I could understand."This was a comment from my friend who doesn't understand Chinese.I did write in English, well, 1 out of 100 posts. I wrote most of the contents for my blockchain startup Forbole in English, such as this post about distributed trust. The biggest obstacle is, of course, my fear of making grammar mistakes. The second obstacle is time. Translating an article which is originally written in one's native language into one's second language consumes at least double of the time as creating that article. But after I got the above comment, my fear has gone. In fact, who really care if I used a wrong preposition or Read more [...]
